Today’s post features the inspiring story of Rachel, who landed her dream job during the COVID-19 pandemic. I’m so excited to be able to share more about the steps she took to land this new opportunity as I believe they can be an inspiration to anyone that landing a dream job is possible at any time! How to Use Mindset + A 30-60-90 Day Plan to Land a Dream Job

Preparing for the Job Search by First Finding Clarity

The first step in Rachel’s job search was to get crystal clear on what she wanted in her next position. She had already done a great job of recognizing that although she loved her last job, it wasn’t providing any room for growth or expansion. She realized that she was “too ambitious to remain in the role.” Although she had that part figured out, she didn’t know what was next. An eye-opening interaction showed her just how much work she had left to do in finding her clarity…

I was out and I met someone of significance and they asked me like, ‘Oh, well, if we were to hire you, what would you want to do?’ And I drew a blank. I was like, ‘uh…. ‘ At that moment, I realized if I can’t even speak to what it is I’m looking for, then maybe I need to do a little bit more soul searching and figure out what it is I want.

So Rachel got to work moving through the clarity exercises in the Happily Hired Formula, diligently identifying her passions, goals, and desires more specifically than ever before. She shared that by the time she had moved halfway through the program, she could share exactly what she wanted with no hesitation!

“I had a colleague stop me because she knew I was searching for a job. And she was like, ‘So what’s going on with your job search? What are you looking for?’ And I was like, ‘I want an account executive position, that’s remote in Brooklyn.’ Like I knew to the T exactly what I was looking for. It was like a whole different scenario and that matters. It really does.”

Setting Yourself Up for Success With Practical Action Steps

After Rachel narrowed in on her exact goal (to land a remote Account Executive role), she then developed an application strategy that would work for her. As a New Yorker, she was constantly on the go and wasn’t able to find much time to dedicate to applying in front of a computer at home. So she took advantage of technology and got organized, strategic, and ready to take action.

Rachel says: “I’m in New York and I’m always out and about, and I was like, I need to be able to do this on my phone. So I set up folders. I had resumes with different titles and every time I job searched I would apply on the spot. That was the game-changer. So I would read through jobs. I’m like, Oh, I love that – submit application. So that, and then the ones that were like near and dear to my heart, I would send solution messages out. Now, they wouldn’t always get responses back, but honestly, some of them did and some people did want to meet with me. I think that shocked me the most. That there were a few people, even during a pandemic, who would take time and respond to me or want to have a conversation with me.”

Using the 30-60-90 Day Plan to Secure the Offer

Rachel landed a phone interview for her dream job and was asked to prepare a 30-60-90 day plan for her next interview. She had never heard of a 30-60-90 day plan, but thankfully the Happily Hired Formula includes a template as well as a tutorial for creating one. Rachel shares more about the process below:

“For the 30-60-90 day plan, I went into your module, watched it and basically I put it together and used, you have like a template of sorts, but I kind of made it my own. I think some of the things that you said that really made such a huge difference is use the company’s brand. Like, speak as though you’re already a part of their company. So I did. When I did my 30-60-90 day, I know that their colors were purple and yellow. So that’s most of the time I spent trying to get their logo down… and it looked solid. And so when the day came, when I went through it, they were so quiet. And I kept asking like, ‘Do you have questions?’ And everybody was like, ‘No.’ And then by the very end of it, they, everyone was like, ‘To be honest, we are extremely impressed. This is great. We need you.’ And I didn’t even really know what a 30-60-90 day was two days prior. To hear that, was amazing!”

30 minutes after presenting her 30-60-90 day plan, the company called Rachel to tell her they wanted to move forward with her on the team. This was the exact position she identified as her target role when searching for clarity! I am so thrilled for Rachel and her new dream job!
