Each Sunday, I write a letter from the soul—part story, part insight, part permission slip to help high-achieving women come home to themselves.
These are some of my favorite reflections on burnout, alignment, identity, and creating a life that actually lights you up.
Ever felt like everything in your life should be working, but inside, something just feels off?
I used to think burnout only came from working too many hours or juggling too many tabs (which, to be honest… guilty 😅). But the kind of burnout I found myself in was different.
This one was slower. Quieter. Harder to name.
The Symptoms I Couldn’t Ignore
It looked like:
-
Losing interest in things I used to love
-
Procrastinating and not knowing why
-
Wondering what the point of it all was
-
Hoping my spark, energy, and motivation would just… come back
And the most confusing part?
Nothing looked “wrong” on the outside.
The business was fine. Clients were happy. Everything looked good.
So I told myself I should feel content.
And when I didn’t, I doubled down on what I knew best: productivity.
Which, I’ve since realized, is just a socially acceptable coping strategy, an efficient way to avoid actually feeling your feelings.
But underneath all the hustle and function… I felt sparkless. Disconnected. Like I was just going through the motions.
What I Now Call Misalignment Burnout
It’s not about doing too much.
It’s about doing the wrong things for too long.
The kind of “wrong” that still looks good on paper, but deep down, you know you’ve outgrown it.
You might be feeling this too if you’ve ever:
-
Stayed in a relationship you know is past its expiration date
-
Stayed in a job out of loyalty or fear of letting others down
-
Said yes to things you wanted to scream no to
-
Left social hangouts feeling more drained than energized
-
Felt resentment for always playing the same role (the responsible one, the fixer, the planner)
Let me say this clearly:
Outgrowing something doesn’t make you ungrateful or flaky. It makes you human.
But we stay.
Because of FEAR, fear of disappointing people, of losing stability, of making the wrong choice.
And let’s be honest: change is terrifying.
I stayed in the wrong thing 18 months longer than I care to admit. I kept pushing through, ignoring the tension headaches, Netflix-binging at night just to feel something different.
The Drastic Pivot I Made
The first time I hit misalignment burnout, I did something wild:
I quit my six-figure job, sold everything I owned, and backpacked through Europe for six months.
But I’m here to tell you:
You don’t have to blow up your life to come back to yourself.
You don’t have to quit your job, sell your house, or move to Bali.
What you do need is quiet space.
You need to stop overworking just to avoid the truth.
You need to be willing to feel what’s really there.
Because when you do… that’s when your real clarity begins.
I’ve seen this over and over with clients.
One recently told me, eyes wide and energy beaming:
“I can’t believe I just said aloud what I’ve been too scared to admit. I feel so light and free! Like I finally gave myself permission to want what I want.”
And I smiled because I know that feeling.
The exhale. The soul relief. The return to self.
If You’re in the In-Between…
If you’re currently in the messy middle—between who you were and who you’re becoming, please know:
✨ You’re not stuck
✨ You’re not behind
✨ You’re not broken
You’re just becoming.
And what’s ahead of you? It’s more magical than you can even imagine.
